Background

The Retina-Inspired Filter (RIF) is a dynamic transform that performs according to behaviour of a group of cells that form the Outer Plexiform Layer (OPL) of the retina; a thin layer of tissue that lines the back of the eye on the inside.

The RIF filter was initially applied to still-image under the assumption that the visual stimulus is constant in time (More details here) .

Motivation

Very high frame-rate videos consist of very strong spatio-temporal redundancies thus it might be considered that a Group of Pictures (GOP) might be constant or almost constant.

Consequently, relaxing some initial conditions the RIF filter might be applied to a GOP instead of each frame separately.

Results

Depending on the number of GOP it is obvious that are generated some motion artifacts. The more the GOP the stronger the artifacts.
